Matcha powder for adding matcha flavor to confections and other recipes. This matcha powder is intended for use as flavoring rather than for whisking and drinking it as straight matcha tea. Try mixing it with yogurt, or mix it with milk to prepare 'matcha latte'.

Ground from shade-cultivated tea leaves, matcha is rich in theanine-an amino acid responsible for matcha's full-bodied mellow sweetness. In Japan, there is a special name for this taste: umami. Generally, the higher the grade, the richer the umami taste.

Fumi-no-tomo has matcha's characteristic flavor, but with the focus much more on astringency than umami, making it ideal for cooking and making confections.

Fumi-no-tomo is a culinary grade matcha developed specifically for use in the kitchen. When selecting a matcha for whisking and drinking as usucha, choose a grade priced at 600 yen or more for a 40-gram package.
