The moon is at its most beautiful in autumn, and poets think of autumn when they encounter a moonlit scene. Tsukikage—our special autumn matcha—is named after the light of the moon. Flowers of the tea plant portrayed symbolically on a rich and comforting autumn color background give the package a mellow but sophisticated air. When you sip Tsukikage, the matcha's initial sharpness is soon joined by layers of sweetness and umami, and a clear, fresh fragrance fills the air. Finally, a faint astringency remains on the tongue, leaving your mouth refreshed. That delightful progression can be experienced again with a second bowl of tea, and even a third bowl. This is a distinctive feature of Tsukikage. This tea goes exceedingly well with sweet Japanese confections and Western sweets. Autumn is the time when crops ripen and trees produce their fruit. Confectioners use this natural bounty to produce a multitude of rich and sweet confections that are only available during this season. When you see chestnut or pumpkin sweets in the shops, remember how well they would go with Tsukikage. This is a matcha we recommend for people trying Ippodo matcha for the first time.
It's ideal for drinking at home, or makes a delightful gift.
